Crisis in Asia

As the crisis in Asia unfolds and the death toll is expected to be around 150,000 people, I can't help but feel helpless. It's strange to be traveling to a part of the world that is experiencing such tragedy and suffering. As I eagerly look forward to traveling to Asia, many people are left looking for their loved ones. I can't imagine how hard that must be.

It's strange to think that within the next four months I will be visiting many of the areas hit hardest by the tsunamis. It also amazes me that seismologists throughout the world were aware that a 9.0 earthquake occurred and would reap devastation on many populated areas, but they were unable to send any message of warning. Countless people have lost their lives; how many deaths could have been prevented?

To the people of South East Asia, my thoughts are with you.

Home? in Calgary

So, I am now officially home in Calgary. When I writie home? it's because my parents have moved since I was last at home and I really am not going to be living here. So, I don't know if I can actually say home!, but home? will work. Sorry for the poor punctuation.

The trip home was uneventful. Chad and I finished cleaning our apartment and then we packed my truck. I used every bit of space and then covered it all with a giant blue tarp. All told, it fit but barely.

Anyhow, I'm now pretty tired.

Moving and Packing

In two days, I'm moving from Edmonton to Calgary. So far I have pretty much everything packed, but I have to make sure that I can fit all my stuff in my Toyota truck. I'm thinking it will be quite the exercise and involve me unpacking and repacking the truck several times. Now, if it will just stop snowing!

Winter in Edmonton

I really like this picture of a bench in Edmonton. I think it captures how snow can actually be a good thing.

Today, I went skiing in the river valley with my friend George. It was a lot of fun and there were no injuries. If you know George, then you realize that this a big accomplishment.

So, I have broken down and will submit to the pressure to make my own blog. Ok, so there wasn't really any pressure and I do think it's a good idea to have one. Anyhow, here it is, welcome.
